‘Anxiety’ by THE OVERCOMING PROJECT Review
The Overcoming Project is masterminded by Mike Trubetskov who founded the project back in 2015 in Melbourne Australia. Anxiety is the second single release that features artists that are well known to the metal community such as Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith) on vocals, Mike Heller (Fear Factory, Malignancy) on drums, and Sergei “Efes” Fomin (FS Projekt) on bass.
The single itself is nothing short of awesome! Combining styles from the extreme metal genres everything from hard-hitting monstrous riffs to blast beats, clean-ish vocals which cross over into guttural to accentuate the brutal parts in the track. The groove element is simply outstanding, it is kinda like a new level of groove meets extreme metal, very impressive indeed. After the third time of listening to the accompanying lyric video (made by Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art great job mate) It still had the raw power and immense energy as with the first time of listening, which is rare for me to experience, most tracks lose their intensity after a few listens, but not Anxiety.
Although it is only a studio-only project with worldwide collaboration with some of metal’s elite musicians, The Overcoming Project have something very unique with such a talented composer at the helm, I am sure we will be hearing a lot more about this project.
